Today, the Department of Private Law at the University of Oslo organised a seminar regarding the interplay between EU/EEA law and fundamental rights, titled Fundamental Rights Protection in the ‘special relationship’ between the EU and Norway. Among the speakers were many prominent academics, such as Bruno de Witte, Niamh Nic Shubine and Halvard Haukeland Fredriksen.

The Court’s President, Páll Hreinsson, gave the keynote address at the conference. In his speech he set out how the EFTA Court developed fundamental rights protection within the EEA and looked at potentially unresolved issues regarding the impact of the EU’s Charter of Fundamental Rights in the context of EEA law.
